Changing the Face of Mental Health

>>Course Description >>Course Registration & Fees

Scott Miller, Ph.D. and Barry Duncan, Psy.D. created the Heart and Soul of Change conferences to bring researchers and mental health/substance abuse professionals together to discuss what works in clinical practice. Building on the tradition of excellence of the first event held in Toronto in June 2002— where hundreds witnessed an unprecedented clinical application of 40 years of research—and the second conference in Austin, where practitioners from around the globe embraced the far-reaching implications of using client outcome feedback to direct therapy—the Heart and Soul of Change 3 takes a radical step forward. (More on the Speakers)

For three days, key scholars, practitioners, and movers and shakers will translate the very latest empirical findings about what works into “take home” skills specific to your practice—participants can tailor their experience to fit their particular settings and client population. Moreover, the revolutionary findings that client-based outcome feedback substantially increases effectiveness—more than anything in the history of psychotherapy—will be similarly converted into pragmatic steps, specific to your practice, to enhance the benefit of any treatment regardless of the model practiced.

But that’s not all. Participants will get an inside view from those who are making radical changes in traditional mental health and substance abuse settings, as well as with children and families, case management, and criminal justice systems. Representatives from managed care, for profit clinical settings, and public agencies will present examples of client directed, outcome-informed services in diverse settings and offer practical steps for change. As a bonus, optional CEU lunch presentations will examine the most controversial issues of the day. The Heart and Soul of Change 3 goes beyond simply calling for a paradigm shift—a shift that not only improves outcome one client at a time but also assigns those we serve key roles—it offers participants the means to change the face of mental health and substance abuse service delivery systems.

Participants will learn:
  • What Works in clinical practice, including substance abuse, case management, and criminal justice. What is known about change will be translated into practical “take home” skills to immediately improve your effectiveness with
    your clients.

  • To Deliver What Works, using client-based outcome and alliance feedback to dramatically increase your clinical impact. Skill building workshops will instantly help you improve your effectiveness up to an amazing 65%.

  • To Change the mental health and substance abuse delivery systems. How you can transform your practice, agency, or organization will be detailed by the movers and shakers in the field— visionary leaders using outcome management, to not only enter full partnerships with clients, but also to usher the next paradigm shift.

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity!
