Conference FoundersScott D. Miller, Ph.D. is a co- founder of the Institute for the Study of Therapeutic Change and works as a therapist providing services pro bono to traditionally under served clients. Dr. Miller also conducts workshops and training in the United States and abroad. He is the author of numerous articles and co-author or co-editor of Escape from Babel (Norton, 1997), The Heart and Soul of Change (APA Press, 1999), and the forthcoming Making Treatment Count (with Michael Lambert and Bruce Wampold [LEA]).Barry L. Duncan, Psy.D., is a co-founder of the Institute for the Study of Therapeutic Change and practices in Boca Raton, Florida. Dr. Duncan has received numerous awards for his contributions to mental health and is the author or co-author of over one hundred publications, including thirteen books. The latest: The Heroic Client (Jossey Bass, 2004) and the self-help book, What’s Right With You (HCI, 2005). Barry conducts seminars internationally in hopes of inciting insurrection against practices that diminish clients and encouraging therapists to establish their own identity. Conference SpeakersPeter Albert, LICSW, is a director at Retreat Healthcare which is a psychiatric and substance abuse treatment facility in Vermont. Since 1999 he has been the director of PrimariLink, the Managed Service Division of the Retreat. This role includes the development of quality improvement projects aimed at improving the clinical outcomes of the 35,000 Vermont residents for whom PrimariLink provides Case Management services.Leonard Bickman, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology, Psychiatry and Public Policy, director of the Center for Evaluation and Program Improvement and Associate Dean for Research at Peabody College. Professor Bickman is a nationally recognized leader in mental health services research on children and adolescents and is a frequent award recipient for his contributions. Bob Bohanske, Ph.D., is the Chief of Clinical Services and Clinical Training at Southwest Behavioral Health Services and Clinical Director of MARC Behavioral Health and The Southwest Network. He received his Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Psychology from the University of Arizona and M.S. in Counseling and Rehabilitation from the University of Southern California. Michael D. Clark, LMSW, CAC, is a therapist, consultant and trainer who has over 25 years of direct practice experience with mandated clients. Michael has served as one of the first consultants to bring change-focused strategies to the field of criminal justice (law & courts), publishing over 20 articles and book chapters including a number of essays that were first-of-its-kind for several disciplines working with mandated clients. David A. Claud, MS, is a licensed counselor and certifi ed addictions professional in Florida with over 33 years of experience in social services. He is Chief Operating Officer for the Center for Family Services of Palm Beach County. In 2001, David’s agency began using the Outcome Rating Scale and Session Rating Scale, collaborating with Duncan & Miller to complete validation studies on these two instruments. Karen Cunningham, MSW, LICSW, is Senior Vice President of Clinical Services at Family Service of Rhode Island, where she leads the effort to integrate the CDOI approach into the agency’s service delivery; adjunct professor at her alma mater, Rhode Island College; and a therapist in private practice. In 1994, she was named NASW Social Worker of the Year. She is an advanced practitioner of Ericksonian hypnotherapy. David Elliott, M.A. BSEE, is a cross-over from the hi-tech medical device industry to the counseling field. In addition to being a recently graduated psychotherapist from JFKU in CA, he brings some Excel programming skills from Silicon Valley. David has developed the ASIST program which automates the outcome measure process. As ASIST is gaining popularity and progressing into an agency version, David is excited to be sowing the seeds of automated clinical measures. Mary Susan Haynes, Ph.D. is the Assistant Director for Clinical Services in the Adult Mental Health Services department at Community Health and Counseling Services based in Bangor, Maine, which serves the SPMI population through a variety of community and outpatient programs. She is currently leading her department through a transformation into a client-directed, outcome-informed program. William Plum, LADC is the Program Director for Residential and Outpatient Services for the Center for Alcohol and Drug Treatment. In addition to his duties with CADT, William is an Associate with the Institute for the Study of Therapeutic Change. William is a trainer/consultant with extensive National/International experience. He has worked with Penal Reform International and Geese Theater Company where he started prison based substance abuse programs in Romania and Bulgaria. Jason A. Seidel, Psy.D., is a licensed psychologist, consultant, and national lecturer with a full-time private practice in Denver, Colorado. He is an associate of the Institute for the Study of Therapeutic Change. His research interests include the limitations of research design in explaining psychological outcomes, and alternative conceptualizations of biological correlates to psychological difficulties. Jacqueline Sparks, Ph.D., teaches at the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Rhode Island. Jacqueline has worked with families and individuals for over 20 years. She is co-author of The Heroic Client and Heroic Agencies: Partnerships for Change, and is lead investigator of the CORS validation study. Her publications and teaching challenge business as usual in mental health and promote client-directed policies, paperwork, and procedures. Jim Walt, MA, MFT - Past President of California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and currently on the board as a member-at-large. Associate Professor at John F. Kennedy University, Campbell campus, and also manages a counseling and consulting group, Santa Cruz Center, in Capitola, CA. Professional interests include – remembering that clients are the heroes of the therapy process, and being accountable to client defined measures of service. Bruce E. Wampold, Ph.D., ABPP, who was trained in mathematics (BA from the University of Washington) before earning his doctorate in Counseling Psychology (Ph.D., from UC Santa Barbara) is Professor and Chair of Department of Counseling Psychology at the University of Wisconsin Madison. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Divisions 12, 17, 29) and a Diplomate in Counseling Psychology of the American Board of Professional Psychology. |
